How I got the Best Breasts without having to wear a bra

October 10, 2016

With Summer fast approaching, you best believe this fabmom is once again on the prowl for the best looks of the season to make sure us mommies keep up with the trends while at the same time feeling comfortable and confident in our skin and the clothes we wear.

My current interest is leaning toward the off-the-shoulder trend that’s been coming and going for as long as I can remember, and that’s decided to stick around for this season. However, my first thought when looking at the mostly perky breasted women rocking this look, was: how are my child-battered tieties ever going to survive a day without a bra!

Unthinkable. Until the ladies from lingerie letters contacted me to review their Best Breast product.

It didn’t take me long to fall in love with this seemingly  simple, but rather amazing breast lifting tape. I am especially excited for us moms who steer clear from anything that requires us not to wear a bra, because of…well…gravity.

I discovered to my delight that the tape stays on for up to 8 hours and although maybe not practical for everyday mommy duty, is perfect for a night out on the town or the beach.

It is 100% waterproof so can also be applied under your bikini. If you are expecting the usual stick-ons, you’re in for a surprise. Best Breast  provide a transparent, waterproof, hypoallergenic adhesive solution.

Please note: Skin should be clean from any oils, creams, sweat etc and should be applied on dry skin. Do not use on sensitive skin, scars, and incase of pregnancy. It is recommended to apply for no longer than 8 hours and should be removed before sleeping.

You can get your Best Breast from Lingerieletters right now at only R139.95 for three sets.

Needless to say, after I tried my Best Breast, I felt confident to flaunt my off-the-shoulder dress and show off my instantly perky girls.

Flora Bay Resort: Our Family holiday slash anniversary get-away

September 21, 2016

This year Lesley and I decided to take all three kids along on our anniversary weekend away and ended up being more excited for them than for us celebrating 6 years of marriage.

To make sure the little ones had as much fun on our three day, two night get-away, we needed to make sure we include all the things they love. First on their list of demands was to make sure we are within walking distance from the beach, thus eliminating mine and Lesley’s usual wine route exploring, and instead we settled for our beautiful Atlantic seaboard. Boy, were we happy we did. We found everything their little hearts desired at Flora bay, nestled neatly between mountain and sea, at the foot of Chapman’s Peak in Houtbay.

This self-service resort isn’t exactly 5 star, but you damn sure get your money’s worth and then some; and what’s more, its an ideal holiday destination for the whole family and boasts a luscious green lawn for the boys to kick some ball, a park and a private beach if the tide is not high. Our kids were this close to abandoning us and moving in for good.

The beach-inspired decor is light and breezy and perfectly suited for the neat rooms all of which are overlooking the bay. You feel right at home from the moment you walk in the door. The linen is clean and crisp and white and we could sleep for days non-stop if it wasn’t for the kids that somehow got it in their evil minds that there will be no sleeping-in on this holiday.

The kitchen is fully stocked if you plan to cook anything in there. The pan non-stick, the fridge ice cold and the microwave small yet powerful. Caution: You may want to take your own coffee along as the three or four complimentary sachets does not get replenished once done. Lucky for us we go nowhere without our Jacobs. However, I wouldn’t be too concerned since the shops and restaurants are just down the road.

The bathroom is right at the front door, but this didn’t bother us at all as it was the first place we headed anyway after a day at the beach. The shower is large, and the water warm. There really is nothing bad to say about the spacious bathroom, other than it did not include a bath.

We stayed in one of three beach front suits – the one with a balcony – this is where I started every day with a cup of steamy coffee and ended those days with a glass of bubbly. The kids loved having their ice-creams there too. There are suits without balconies, so if you are a balcony person such as myself, then you might want to remember this before you check in. The place is a gem and truly has one of the most majestic views in Cape Town.

The master bedroom is upstairs and you literally feel like floating on a cloud while lying down on plush white linen, the sea breeze streaming in and, of cause, the endless ocean view. The kids “room” is downstairs, at the foot of a long flight of stairs. Definitely not ideal for younger kids and although we kept reminding ours about the dangers of falling, they kept climbing anyway and it so became their playground and kept them entertained for hours. We are happy to report no kids were harmed during the making of this holiday.

What we loved most about this arrangement was that Miguel would not sneak into our bed like he does every night at home; maybe because climbing those stairs in the early hours of the morning, while still befell with sleep, must seem like too much of a hassle. Note to self: find a house with a long stairway inside and make kids sleep downstairs.

If stairs is not for your family, flora bay offers many other suits, all with breathtaking views from every angle.

Our first stop when we arrived in Houtbay was Ruggafellas. Not kid-friendly, but their burgers are pretty good.

My Spring Photoshoot

September 3, 2016

Welcome to Spring all you yummy mummies!

My first real photoshoot! Not the selfie-and-instagram-filter type, but one with a real photographer, beautiful location and poses that would make any supermodel die with envy.

That was me last Sunday. Although it didn’t start out so well. The thought of leaving the house at eight on a Sunday morning, with all three our kids in tow while also running around in heels, filled me with dread the moment Lesley and I came up with the crazy idea. But it was high time for a few quality snaps to finally put a face to my brand. More importantly, I knew you,  my readers, needed to know who it is you are connecting with, and that was enough motivation for me to go through with it all.

Surprisingly the kids were very helpful throughout, and enjoyed helping both model (Mom) and photographer (dad) get the job done. I have learned in my more than six years as a mother that the secret to avoid fussy kids while out and about, is to keep any activity short and sweet, so that’s exactly what we did – we got a few shots we were happy with, quickly wrapped it up and then spent the rest of the morning relaxing at one of our favourite restaurants (review to follow), which happens to also have a kids play park. All this in under three hours. It’s safe to say we make a really mean team, in more ways than one 🙂

Take a look!

Miguel’s Easter Birthday Celebration

April 3, 2016

This year Miguel’s birthday was at a particularly special time. He turned four years old the day before Good Friday and so we decided to celebrate on this sanctified day, but, out of respect,  keep celebrations to a minimal – or rather we tried to. Turns out, you put a bunch of kids in the same location, add some cake and chocks and things are bound to turn wild.

So, even though we did not splurge on decor, food or treats, the day ended up being a roaring success. Needless to say, the birthday boy was a happy chap.

Here’s what we got up to…
Jada was such a helpful fairy and spent her entire morning helping me blow up balloons and hanging it and the party banners around the garden. I of course had to keep her distracted while I hid the Easter eggs. Lesley watched the boys while us girls worked our magic.

We were blessed with the most amazing sunny day, so I decided a picnic on the grass will be fun.
I obviously didn’t plan for such a hot day, so I was quite nervous when most of the guests had still not arrived by 12 the afternoon and the Easter eggs I hid earlier was slowly starting to melt. Hint: Wait until the very last possible moment to hide the eggs if you’re planning an egg hunt.

As soon as the last kid arrived, we lined up everyone for the hunt to begin!

The kids loved having to search through the flowers, rocks and in old containers for the Easter eggs and bunnies.

I clearly underestimated these rascals. All the eggs were found in 5 minutes flat! Hint: Kids can smell chocolate from miles away. They enjoy the hunt so much, it may be smart to make it more challenging for them.

Phoebe, the youngest Easter bunny and our niece, made sure she did not miss out on any of the fun.

I found face and body paint at the Crazy Store and instead of making use of a professional artist, I asked one of the guests who thankfully was willing to show off her creative flair. I think they turned out pretty well and the kids wouldn’t enjoy it any more if it was done professionally. Hint: If you do not have the time or money for a professional face painting artist, nominate a willing and trusted friend.

Although I do not have any pictures of them, I was also lucky to get a few “Easter egg hunt starter packs” at the Crazy Store. The packs each included four bunny eared masks which the kids could colour themselves. The colour pencils were included and so were a bunch of other artsy things which is great for a kids art table at any party.

The Amazing home-made Seafood Paella, Pickled Fish and Snoek braai dishes were all a major hit with the guests. So was the cakes from Ouma se Winkel

We ended off the day on a high note. When was the last time you took part in an egg race? I literally laughed so much, I cried. This game is an absolute must at every party you host from hereon. No matter the theme. I was lucky to get plastic eggs and spoons from Clicks, but I’m sure the real thing can be just as much fun, if not more

The kids joined in on all the fun, but I think they were more fascinated with the adults that turned into little kids.

What a blessed day indeed!
