Best Places To Lunch With Mom this Mothers’ Day

April 22, 2018

It’s that time of year again when we pull out all the stops to show the women who raised us, just how incredibly special they are to us. Yes, just in case it slipped your minds, on 13 May we celebrate Mothers’ day, and if you’re not sure where to take mom for some spoils, then don’t worry, because I’ve taken care of that for you.

Our mamas absolutely love quality time with their children, so it will no doubt blow her away when surprised to a lovely afternoon tea or lunch at her favourite restaurant with the most beautiful views. Whether your mom loves to just relax with her tea while she takes in her surrounds or whether she prefers long walks after, one thing we know for sure is that when it comes to mother’s day celebrations, we never compromise.

The most adorable and affordable high tea Cafes and Restaurants in Cape Town

March 23, 2016

It is that time of year again, where we are trading the salads and water for comfort foods and warm beverages such a coffee and tea; but more specifically tea as it is in my case.

My only daughter is turning 6 soon and finds nothing more appetising than a cup of tea (not the kids variety) and a beautifully decorated cupcake. I used to think she only loves cupcakes so much because they are so gorgeous to look at, but I soon discovered that unless the icing is a certain level of sweet, she was going to do nothing but just that; look at it. I have therefore made it my life’s mission to find the most affordable and most adorable high tea cafes and restaurants in Cape Town.

While going through the many options available in Cape Town, and believe me there’s many, I realized there are few better ways to tell a daughter, sister, mother or friend how truly special they are to you, than treating them to a fancy cafe serving delicious cakes and amazing tea of every kind imaginable.

When I think of “high tea,” the first few names of pristine and reputable locations that comes to mind are the likes of the Belmond Mount Nelson, The One and Only and the Taj Hotel. They are also the first three recommendations for this event on almost every blog and website. However great, these are just not the places I am going to take my daughter to every time we feel like an afternoon out to bond and enjoy some cake and tea (which may be quite often.) Besides these places being a ‘teensy’ bit expensive, they do in many instances, if not all, require you to make prior bookings.

So although I will most certainly treat my daughter or any of my loved ones to one of these from time to time, I have put together a more cost effective and accessible list of five other options where you will most likely get the same service and quality, minus the bellhop.

Here they are Moms:

Isabella’s Cake and Food shop

Although Isabella’s is a treat for everyday, you can also design your own High Tea Party by choosing from their       fabulous selection of items.

Located: Shop G35a, Willowbridge Shopping Centre, 39 Carl Cronje Avenue, Bellville

High Tea

Tucked away in a tranquil garden, High Tea has grown from a simple tea and cakes shop since its birth ten years ago, to a charming place to enjoy breakfast, lunch or afternoon tea and has become one of the preferred small function venues Cape Town.

Located:  53 Constantia Road (Access from Whitby), Plumstead 7800

Contact: 021 7971 421 or

Kirstenbosch Tea Room

Located, as their site state and quite frankly true, in the most beautiful garden in Africa.

Located: Gate 2 Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, Rhodes Drive Newlands, Cape Town, 7700

Contact: 021 797 4883 or 074 142 1100 or

The Valvet Cake Co.

Also know as “Treat,” this team want their customers to experience their creativity in a comfortable setting, where you can relax and have an unforgettable experience. The feature of their restaurant is the Cake Table, which hosts a wide variety of cakes that will make anyone go WOW!

Cafe Mozart

As a part of the Madame Zingara company, this cafe has a tragic history which turned victorious by the sheer perseverance of the Zingara family. I dare you to visit their site for more information and the cafe which operates daily.

Located: 37 Church Street, Cape Town

Contact: 021 424 3774 or
