Family Fun at Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens

July 21, 2017

If ever you needed convincing that Cape Town is the most beautiful city on this planet, then all you need to do is take a walk through Kirstenbosch botanical gardens.

That’s what we decided to do with the kids this week as we near the end of the long Winter school holidays.

Of cause, our family’s been here many times before, mostly for concerts and picnics on the lush lawns, but I cannot believe it took us this long to actually take the time to explore this little piece of heaven – 528 hectares to be exact.  I swear us Cape Towwnians are taking so much for granted.

The five of us started the afternoon at Moyo where the kids enjoyed the Winter Wonders Holiday Program with drumming lessons, a puppet show, and many other fun kiddies activities. I also enjoyed the best pepper soup of my entire life!

After all the indoor fun and with our tummies full, we decided to take full advantage of our gorgeous surrounds. Kirstenbosch has a variety of walking trails and the most breathtaking views. With your usual hiking trails around town not coming without their own safety concerns, the botanical gardens is definitely a winning option when out with the kids.

Addicts of Jurassic Park, my seven, five and three-year-old explorers could not contain their excitement when we also spotted a few dinosaurs along the way and had a blast running wild trying to spot the many different bird species. There’s SO many!! This activity alone could keep us busy the entire day, but we decided to save some of the adventures for when we visit again.

But enough of my yapping. If the proof of just how incredible this place is, is in the pudding, then these images are the best lemon meringue pie in town 🙂
