Weekend Style Crush – Mom Jeans

May 19, 2017

At first it may seem tricky getting it right, but mom jeans are actually perfect for many reasons, two of which are, they compliment almost any body type and they are not tight-fitting, in fact the more loose-fitting, all the better!

They are also pretty fun to play with when it comes to styling and are quite forgiving of us moms having to run around with the littlies all day long.

How do you find the perfect pair for you? Make sure it hugs the tummy at the smallest part of the waist and it will flatter any figure. The legs are easy and should be straight-cut and loose fitting.

Here’s an inspiration board I’ve put together for you, and to avoid me getting swamped with emails (I learned the hard way), I’ve also included the links to outlets around South Africa where you could possibly find a mom jeans of your own!

One thing is clear in all these looks – With the right shoe, you can add your touch of magic to any outfit. The challenge is to show off your unique style.

Weekend Crush – The Knit Dress

March 18, 2017

When Jennifer Lopez recently stepped out on a date night with bae, wearing nothing but a teeny tiny knit dress, the internet once again went crazy. I can only assume the uproar had less to do with the dress and more with her confidence showing off her beautifully toned legs and how youthful she remains even for her age at only 47 years young.

Fabmom believes that we are all merely as old as we feel and this is most likely one of the reasons I have always loved Jenny from the block. She has style, is fearless and unashamed and she pours her heart into everything she does, including being a mom to her twins.

You would agree with me that being a mom requires us to be able to handle the type of emotional demand that money and fame cannot buy. So for a moment appreciate all fabulous moms and draw inspiration from that there really is nothing stopping you living your ideal life and being your ideal self, when you are bold enough to step out of your own way.

Of cause this would not be a complete Fabmom post, without a dash of fabspiration helping you along the way.

So be fearless and rock the timeless knit dress this autumn.

It’s comfy and you can easily wear it with sneakers

With thigh high boots

Ankle Boots

A hat adds the extra appeal to the knitted look

And nude heels are always show stoppers

How I got the Best Breasts without having to wear a bra

October 10, 2016

With Summer fast approaching, you best believe this fabmom is once again on the prowl for the best looks of the season to make sure us mommies keep up with the trends while at the same time feeling comfortable and confident in our skin and the clothes we wear.

My current interest is leaning toward the off-the-shoulder trend that’s been coming and going for as long as I can remember, and that’s decided to stick around for this season. However, my first thought when looking at the mostly perky breasted women rocking this look, was: how are my child-battered tieties ever going to survive a day without a bra!

Unthinkable. Until the ladies from lingerie letters contacted me to review their Best Breast product.

It didn’t take me long to fall in love with this seemingly¬† simple, but rather amazing breast lifting tape. I am especially excited for us moms who steer¬†clear from anything that requires us not to wear a bra, because of…well…gravity.

I discovered to my delight that the tape stays on for up to 8 hours and although maybe not practical for everyday mommy duty, is perfect for a night out on the town or the beach.

It is¬†100% waterproof so can also be applied under your bikini. If you are expecting the usual stick-ons, you’re in for a surprise. Best Breast¬†¬†provide a transparent, waterproof, hypoallergenic adhesive solution.

Please note: Skin should be clean from any oils, creams, sweat etc and should be applied on dry skin. Do not use on sensitive skin, scars, and incase of pregnancy. It is recommended to apply for no longer than 8 hours and should be removed before sleeping.

You can get your Best Breast from Lingerieletters right now at only R139.95 for three sets.

Needless to say, after I tried my Best Breast, I felt confident to flaunt my off-the-shoulder dress and show off my instantly perky girls.

Here are a few snaps

Let me know how the Best Breast is working for you.

Bring on Summer!

My Spring Photoshoot

September 3, 2016

Welcome to Spring all you yummy mummies!

My first real photoshoot! Not the selfie-and-instagram-filter type, but one with a real photographer, beautiful location and poses that would make any supermodel die with envy.

That was me last Sunday. Although it didn’t start out so well. The thought of leaving the house at eight on a Sunday morning, with all three our kids in tow while also running around in heels, filled me with dread the moment Lesley and I came up with the crazy idea. But it was high time for a few quality snaps to finally put a face to my brand. More importantly, I¬†knew you, ¬†my readers, needed to know who it is you are connecting with, and that was enough motivation for me to go through with it all.

Surprisingly the kids were very helpful throughout, and enjoyed helping both model (Mom) and photographer (dad) get the job done. I have learned in my more than six years as a mother that the secret to avoid fussy kids while out and about, is to keep any activity short and sweet, so that’s exactly what we did – we got a few shots we were happy with, quickly wrapped it up and then spent the rest of the morning relaxing at one of our favourite restaurants (review to follow), which happens to also have a kids play park. All this in under three hours. It’s safe to say we make a really mean team, in more ways than one ūüôā

Take a look!

5 fashion essentials (Not just every mom) should buy cheap

August 19, 2016

As a mom I am always on the run. And I don’t mean on the treadmill or even after my kids for that matter.

I’m always on the run to work, coffee with a friend, the shops, Spur with the kids, ¬†after a story for my blog, on my husband’s nerves (yes, I sometimes work on his nerves too) and then of cause we cannot ignore the inevitable school functions.

It’s a fact that no matter where I go or what I do, I like to look good doing it. However, chances are phenomenal I’m going to spill something while I’m at it and it is most likely going to be on myself. I am for this reason striking against contrary belief that all staple fashion items needs to be quality and therefore expensive. In fact I’m now convinced they should be as cheap as you can get them so you don’t feel so guilty when spilling coffee or pasta all over them. can I get an Amen!

Here’s 5 fashion essentials I believe every mom should buy on the cheap

I’m a t-shirt gal. I dress them up and down to suit any occasion and the plain white tee is my all time fave. According to Glamour you should Stock up and not feel guilty if you have to toss it eventually due to spills, stains, or discoloration.

Trendy sunglasses

I’ve come across the coolest, trendiest and bad-ass sunnies sold at many a robot around town for R50.¬† R20 depending on your negotiating skills.

Not only do I quickly get tired of one style, but i also always lose them.

Glamour says to spend more on that classic black pair you’ll wear forever, but go low when doing funky shapes or bold colors.

Ballet flats

I will never forget the day my daughter’s crazy aunt bought her not one, but two pairs of accessorize ballet flats for R500 each! They both literally only lasted a month. My heart just broke. Not for my daughter, but the beautiful flats.

Adult or child, these beauties take quite a beating and they are so delicate, damage is unavoidable. But they are just so darn cute! So why not buy the cheapies in diffrent styles and color. You’ll be better able to achieve the carefree attitude we so associate with French-girl style.

Glamour agrees with me in saying yes to spending more for a beautifully fitted bra, and no thanks to overpriced thongs. There are just way too many cute and cheaper options available.

I love that the athleisure era is upon us. It means we don’t need any excuse for wearing our yoga pants and sweats almost everyday, every where. Guilty!!¬†Lucky for me there’s little difference between a R100 pair and a R500 one.
